Making the most of video resources - EdPuzzle for formative assessment

For up to date and real world content, YouTube is our go to place and we often ask students to watch something before class or use a clip as a hook at the beginning of a unit. If we are expecting students to intently watch a video, either in class or for homework we should look to add some questions to focus students attention. Digital Tools can help you do this in a couple of minute, automating the process to collect and process responses.

EdPuzzle is powerful assessment tool which allows you to add questions to a video at specific intervals and then collect in student responses. Look through the following presentation for detailed instructions and signup with your Google Apps account here.

  • You can add any video from YouTube or other platforms
  • Just copy the URL and paste into the EdPuzzle search tool
  • Trim the video to highlight a certain passage of a longer clip
  • Click to add open response or multiple choice questions
  • Save and publish to your students by sharing the link
  • Check your teacher dashboard to see summary of student responses
